Your curriculum vitae, also called resume, is very important for your application. What should you pay attention to and what can you do to make your CV the perfect business card for a company? From the use of color to a photo, here are five tips for a good resume.
With a good CV you increase the chance of receiving an invitation for a conversation.
In addition to your training and work experience, many employers would also like to see who they bring into the company through a photo. Place a photo on your CV so that the employer immediately gets an impression of what you look like. Please note to not use a photo intended for your passport or identity card, because you are not allowed to smile on these photos and a smile on your CV is very pleasant.
The layout of your resume is very important. The more your resume stands out, the greater the chance that a company will invite you. Do not hesitate to use color, but choose a calm color such as blue. An original way to make your CV attractive with color is to divide the CV page into two parts. On the left side you give the page a color to about a third of the page. You can place your photo on the top left, below you can state your name, address, telephone and e-mail in the colored section. In the non-colored right-hand part of the CV you can now immediately start with the work experience followed by training and possibly courses and certificates.
Of course spelling is very important, a spelling mistake in a CV often means that your application will not be processed by the company where you are applying. Check the spelling thoroughly for incorrect language use, use spelling check software for this, a typo is easily made. Successfully presenting a CV is a CV without spelling errors.
No resume is complete without work experience but which work experience is relevant? Name your work experience from the past five to ten years. Work experience from more than ten years ago is often not interesting for employers.
Your education is particularly important for an employer, it provides insight into your work and thinking level. List each training that you have completed. Don't forget to name the courses and certificates you have achieved. Please note that any certificates mentioned are still valid, if this is not the case, do not place the certificate or state that it has already expired.
